Nopparuj Charoenratthakarn, a Year 4/1 student at Assumption College English Program school at the Rama II campus, who was congratulated in front of his peers today for his many golfing achievements.
Nopparuj, who previously studied in the English Program at Assumption College Primary Section, was recently awarded a first place trophy for his outstanding golfing skills. Due to his dedication to and love of golf he is now playing at competition standard. The staff and students of Assumption College English Program school are extremely proud of Nopparuj’s achievements and hope that his success continues into the future. Below, is an interview with Nopparuj, while he was an EP student at Assumption College Primary Section:
1. When did you first start to play golf?
When I was 4 years old I started to play golf with my mum and dad.
2. Who motivated you to start playing golf?
Tiger Woods motivated me to play golf. When I was little I watched him play golf on TV. I was
given a plastic golf set as a gift and I pretended to play in my living room in front of the TV. My
dad always watched me when I did this.
3. Who is your favourite golfer?
My favorite golfer is Tiger Woods. I decided that one day I would like to be just like him so I
began to practise with my plastic golf clubs on the field near my condo. I didn’t have a ‘Tee’ so I
put the ball on a nail in the grass!
4. What is your favorite course to play on?
I like to play on Bangkok Par 3. I like hole 4 the best because it is very easy to get a ‘hole in
one’ I don’t like hole 9 very much because there are sand bunkers and water around this hole
which make it much harder for me to play.
5. Tell us about the trophy you received for your talents in golfing.
Over the past 5 years I have won 9 trophies. Just last month I won 1stplace in the ISF Junior
Golf Competition. I have also won other prizes such as plane tickets for a holiday in Chang Mai!
6. What do you like about playing golf?
I love to play golf with my family. My younger brother who is now 5 years old also plays golf. I
enjoy teaching him how to play. I also love to practise with my professional teacher especially
when I get a hole in one.
7. What do you think is the hardest thing about playing golf?
I don’t like playing on greens with water and sand bunkers. Sometimes when I hit the ball into
sand bunkers I can’t see the green because the bunker is very deep which makes it difficult for
me to get the ball back onto the green.
8. What would you like to tell other students about your favorite sport?
I want to tell all my friends that it’s a fun sport. I love playing golf with my caddie, and ridding
between holes on the golf buggy.
9. Do you think you may like to be a professional golfer when you grow up?
Yes I would love to play golf professionally when I’m older. I know that if you play golf really well
like Tiger Woods then you can win lots of money - maybe 1000 million baht!
